In my latest Substack post, 90 Days, I came out sharing my realization, and SHOCK really, that I am within the 90-day countdown to my 60th birthday. My birthdate is October 3, 1965. You heard that right! I am a 60s baby. I am Gen X. I am a Libra. And I am a “Sunday Child, full of grace”. But what I am mostly, is grateful.

You see, my mother passed at age 67. And my father died at age 50. So, in my mixed up, highly emotional, post-menopausal, nonsensical way, I calculated the average of these two lifespans. For years now, I assumed 58.5 would be ‘my time’, the end of the line, the year to move on. I know - girl math, right?! I am thrilled that I was wrong.

So, to be a late 59-year-old, almost 60, I already feel victorious!! The imaginary “curse” is broken. I am FREE to live as long as the good Lord allows. I will hone my purpose and share my gifts with the world until I am called ‘home’.

With that new freedom, I want to focus on health span now, rather than lifespan. I know, it’s the new buzz word and I like it. Health span is not the number of years you live, but the number of years you live HEALTHILY.

NOW is the time. Birthday Bootcamp. JOIN ME!!

INSIDE OUT. I love Kahill Gibran’s quote “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” I aspire to this belief, so let’s start birthday bootcamp here.

One of the most beneficial additions to my life recently, and maybe of all time, has been meditation. I recently joined a ‘Meditation Club’ at Flo Yoga and Spa in St Augustine Beach, Florida. It is there that I discovered that I COULD find calm. I know that sounds easy, even ridiculous to some, but to me and my energizer bunny ways, finding calm has never come naturally or at all. This mindset changed at this beautiful studio. Calm. I am actually capable of this emotional state now thanks to the biweekly experience in their Reset Room. If you have not tried meditation, I urge you to try in a studio, or perhaps at home. My longtime friend, Anna Cartwright, just published a powerful book on this very topic. I highly recommend you give it a read and put the principles into practice. It is available on Amazon at: Taming Your Thoughts: A Step-by-Step Guide to Godly Meditation. If you are local to St Augustine, I will meet you at Flo Yoga and Spa - every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm. You won’t know the benefits until you try!
