Shadows
“Keep your face towards the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you.” - Walt Whitman
Well, Tuesdays are my typical release day of the week, but here it is already Friday. Life just feels a little heavy lately. I apologize for the delay.
I’d be quick to brush it off and say the Florida heat is just getting to me, but it is more than just temperature. Perhaps the ‘feels like” temp would be a better analogy right now.
I promise, I will turn the corner again soon, and I’ll be right back to joy and peace topics, or let’s hope.
August is a lot. For starters, there is Kev’s birthday and the ‘anniversary.’ There has also been some surprisingly good news, but tough news too. I am just keeping it all “close to the vest’ and believing that God is working it all out for the highest good.
When I crossed the Florida border, I was headstrong to never look back, and to get busy creating a new life. And that is just what I did, with zero regrets. However, I was wrong to think there would be no more setbacks, no more hard times, or no more need to reflect. As a matter of fact, reflection has suddenly become front and center.
I am ready for September, and the arrival of fall. I am ready to have more time between ‘my great loss’ and my hopeful tomorrows. I am doing my best to be comfortable with the cadence of new beginnings and trust the pace of life, and circumstances.
I feel stuck between loss and discovery, between looking back and reaching forward, between yesterdays and tomorrows. Like the New England covered bridge pictured, I am somewhere near the exit, but not fully in the light. I know I’m close.
So, if you are in a dark season, an ambiguous season, I see you. The in-between is hard, often discouraging, but the mystery of what could be pushes us along. Stay curious.
Trying to grieve, heal, and create is a lot for one heart. May goodness never miss you, or may you be wise enough to wait for it to catch up.
